Social Media and Online Marketing Internship

Description: We are looking for an intern to assist with our social media marketing efforts. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). The social media and online marketing intern will be instrumental in increasing our social media presence, brand awareness and driving internet traffic.  The intern will be expected to help create and publish content and promote events and/or programs.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Utilize internet marketing and marketing techniques to increase traffic and brand awareness
  • Maintain and increase our social media presence
  • Assist in planning, writing and pitching news releases, media alerts and other stories
  • Collaborate with staff on new ideas, directions and tools for marketing and communications
  • Other marketing activities as assigned by manager

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Working knowledge of the following platforms is a plus: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Dreamweaver, etc.
  • Solid understanding of social media channels- Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram etc.
  • Ability to proofread and edit
  • Ability to contribute individually and as a team

Compensation: $11.00 an hour

Press and Communications Internship

Description:  Truth in Accounting (TIA) seeks an intern to work in press relations and communications. We seek a bright, ambitious intern in college or graduate school. The ideal candidate would have strong writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Key activities would include:

  • Writing op-eds, featured charts for our web site, newsletter content and letters to the editor
  • Handling or delegating media inquiries
  • Assisting staff in tracking articles for media logs
  • Reaching out to 5-10 reporters/week, identified from our Morning Call newsletter
  • Contributing to Twitter and Facebook activities, focusing on press relations
  • Distributing weekly Featured Charts to selected audience, handle or delegate media inquiries

The candidate will gain solid grounding in building and cultivating media relations for a non-profit organization.  In addition, content skills related to government fiscal conditions and transparency will be developed. The candidate should enjoy working with a team and independently, have strong organizational skills and interest in learning.  

Compensation: $11.00 an hour

Accounting Data and Policy Internship

Description: Carefully research, gather, organize, and compile government financial data for publication and analysis. Requires exploration of large-scale accounting statements and careful identification of data and entry into our database. Data to be acquired and analyzed include a wide range of financial statement items, economic, and demographic information primarily at the state and local level. This work supports efforts to understand government financial conditions and to promote truthful government accounting.

The intern in this position will be trained in reading, analyzing, and transcribing information in government financial reports. The intern will work relatively closely with experienced financial professionals, and will learn valuable skills in taking care with data quality, and will also learn broader lessons about financial statement analysis and important public policy issues.

Compensation: $11.00 an hour

Data Research Internship

Description: Carefully gather, organize, and compile government economic and demographic data for database publication and analysis. Requires exploration of large-scale databases and careful data identification and entry of data into our database. Work supports our proprietary Data-Z database.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Collecting and curating data for our statedatalab.org database
  • Verify data by comparing it to other sources
  • Continuously monitor data quality and update existing data
  • Write glossary entries for each new data point and update existing entries

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Excellent written and written communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Google Suite
  • Basic understanding of databases and data visualization
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments with excellent time management skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of American governmental system a plus

Compensation: $11.00 an hour

Graphic Design Internship

Description: We are looking for an intern to assist with our graphic design efforts. This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). The graphic design intern will be instrumental in the concept, design, and execution of marketing materials, infographics, event flyers, digital content, and report graphics.  

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Develop and design marketing materials, including (but not limited to) digital inforgraphics, content for our site and reports, and event flyers
  • Create branded graphics for social media platforms
  • Create short, informative animated videos
  • Other marketing activities as assigned by manager

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • A deep understanding of the Adobe Suite
  • A highly organized self-starter and inspiring team leader with a solution-oriented mentality
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Familiarity with iOS and basic web development, social content development, creative development as well as the more general dynamics of digital and interactive design
  • Strong video editing/creation skills

Compensation: $10.00 an hour
